Headcovering Supplier Review: Silver Stitching

Constantly on the lookout for cute new headcoverings, it’s always a thrill to find something that fits my own personal style while presenting the headcovering tradition in a tasteful and beautiful way which will be appealing to others.

For me to wear a certain headcovering, it needs to be comfortable, practical (meaning, it won’t fall off easily), and pretty.

Recently, I had the opportunity to try out a new headcovering which is all of those things, from a company on Etsy called Silver Stitching. It is owned by Katie from Canada, who specializes in handcrafted “apparel aimed at virtuous femininity.”

Her Etsy shop:

SilverStitchingCo | Etsy

She offers three different styles of headwraps — Joy, Hope, and Grace:

  • Joy headwraps are 3-5 inches wide.
  • Hope headwraps are 7-10 inches wide.
  • Grace headwraps are full coverage headwraps with a width of 16-22 inches.
  • Joy and Hope headwraps can be worn gathered into thinner headband styles, or extended to their full width.

Katie also provides the very convenient option of customized orders.

I was so excited to get my package in the mail the other day!

Let’s open it together!

It came with a handy little hidden hair comb/clip for keeping it in place (sewn on by request).

I couldn’t wait to try it on!

This headcovering (Grace style) is pleated on each side, with ribbons/ties for adjusting it to fit your head (you can request a clasp instead of ties, if you prefer, but only with knit fabrics). All the full-coverage (Grace style) headcoverings in the Silver Stitching shop are made with pleats. They can be worn as a snood (like I did in the photo), or they can be worn with the hair falling straight down under the wrap, either loose or in a braid.

As I wore this headcovering throughout the afternoon, it stayed in place with just the sewn-on hair comb/clip. I usually use snap clips on either side of my forehead with my regular scarves, but I was surprised to find out how well the little hidden clip worked!

Check out more of Katie’s beautiful, handcrafted headcoverings (there are lots of lovely options!), and learn more about her from her personal website, here:

In my interactions with Katie, she was very quick to get back to me with answers to my questions, and she shipped out my package promptly. I was very pleased with her professional-quality service.

I feel very pretty in this headcovering and will love wearing it to church!

  1. How lovely!
I experimented with different covers for years (different lengths and ties/clasps) and am finally really content with what I have but there are so many options it sure took a while (and some money!) to find the right style for me that was comfortable (I started to get headaches from kerchief knots) and stayed put! Finding a velvet “wig holder” headband several years ago made a huge difference for me!
Your new covering is very pretty!

      1. Hello Jessica,

I got the velvet “wig holder” from Amazon nearly 10 years ago and it is truly wonderful. I actually intend to try my hand at making another one as I have an old velvet dress my daughters outgrew that would be perfect for it. They look to be quite simple to make.

While I have some lovely coverings from Garlands of Grace, what I have found most useful for me is just a square gauze-ish scarf (also from Amazon…I buy the packages of 3 that are usually labeled scarf/shawl and I cut them in half and still end up folding them over once. I find the full size is too thick and cumbersome for me). I appreciate how soft they are, that they can stay in place without a tight knot at the back of my head, and that I can achieve full coverage with them. My only complaints are that:
*they can be distracting for others. A kerchief is not uncommon to see…and even a hanging veil (which I started out using and is still my go-to for a quick cover) isn’t so unusual that it is a distraction. A tischel type scarf, however, can seem a spectacle.
        * Using a scarf to cover can often be misunderstood as an emblem of a different faith. While I stick with one scarf of one color tied plainly, it is so uncommon in our culture that I think some in my rural area might assume I am of a different faith than Christian.

  2. Another great head covering place is Garland of Grace. I’ve enjoyed wearing my head coverings and will have to check Silver Stitching out.

    1. Hi, Andrea!
I just recently, and for the very first time, ordered some coverings from Garlands of Grace. I thought they were very well made and beautiful (I plan on doing a post with photos later . . .). I found that the quality of Katie’s headcoverings from Silver Stitching are highly comparable, since the one I bought from her was very well made, as well. I think that if you like Garlands of Grace, you will also like Silver Stitching. 🙂

  3. I like hers, too! I ordered a blue shear one with an adjustable clasp, and it’s the best ever! And, so much more reasonably priced than some others out there!

    1. Good question, Courtney! I didn’t begin covering until later in our marriage. I studied about it, shared what I had learned with him, and he was very supportive — and still is. 🙂

  4. Looks so nice on you!
I would like to wear the triangle kerchief style but my husband is not so fond of that on me so I have been wearing an extended wider head wrap or a veil style.
I should really give this style you are wearing a try! Thank you so much for sharing 🙂

    1. Thanks, Rosemarie! I like that Silver Stitching has three styles, depending on how wide you want your covering. You might try the middle size, too, since it sounds like what you mentioned. In a video on her website, Katie shows different ways to tuck in the sides for a smooth look. 🙂

  5. So nice !! and it fits to casual modest cloths so well .
You look so beautiful in these photos.
    Thanks for sharing(^^)

  6. Jessica, thank you for introducing us to Silver Stitching! I, too, have purchased a few head coverings from Garlands of Grace, and I look forward to checking out Silver Stitching, as well. The covering you chose is really lovely, and you look beautiful in it–so feminine. From your photos, the covering appears well-made, and the hair comb isn’t visible. I’m always happy to learn of places from which to purchase coverings. Thank you again. Nancy

  7. At church yesterday, our pastor noticed my belly and was SO EXCITED for us! He can’t wait to baptize another Copeland baby in Christ.

  8. Saw Kellie yesterday (I’m 24 weeks). I’m doing great, pregnancy progressing well. STILL nursing 2 LOs

  9. Dear Jessica,

    I recently discovered your blog.

It is very encouraging to see that you do head covering too. It is not popular nowadays and there are only few women who do, it seems to me. Maybe it is better in the United States as it is in Europe. And because so many women object to head covering, it is getting more difficult for those who want to.

Thank you very much for your input on this subject.
    God may bless you!

      1. That’s WONDERFUL Jessica! Hopefully you’re not to uncomfortable in the hear. I’m OFFICIALLY in my 3rd trimester.

  10. Saw Kellie today. I hit 28 weeks yesterday. Will see her every other week for a while. Baby doing great. Both LOs thriving.

  11. I hope everyone here had a joyous Easter. I hit 30 weeks Sunday and saw Kellie yesterday. I’m doing great and my baby-to-be is growing perfectly!

    1. Thirty weeks, Courtney, that’s exciting! So glad to hear that everything is going well! 🙂
Sorry I haven’t been keeping up very well lately with the comments; I’m always so glad to get them, and I certainly appreciate them all. 🙂

  12. I saw Kellie today, I hit 32 weeks yesterday. Pregnancy going great! Baby in correct position, but hasn’t dropped down yet. My 2 babes are THRIVING as well

  13. Okay, I finally bought one! and I am really glad I did. I honestly don`t think I will be going back to scarves. they are all effortless, practical and feminine (my favorite is the grace style, as I have shorter, very curly hair). Thanks Jessica for leading me to a wonderful purchase.

  14. I’m 34 weeks today! See Kellie tomorrow, hopefully she’s pleased with my progress. At church, our fellow congregants are SO HAPPY for us! My LOs LOVE talking to the baby, kissing my belly goodnight. Brian loves cradling my belly while we sleep.

  15. So pretty! May I ask what style is that? I looked and looked on Katie’s etsy site but couldn’t find it, I thought maybe they sold out for this style.

    1. Hi, Marlen!

I didn’t see it, either (though I saw several new and beautiful styles). However, you can request a custom order (see this option on the left sidebar of her Etsy site).

  16. Grace and peace to you Jessica. I have a question about head-covering that I do not know if it is important or not. The LORD gave me an understanding about the importance of covering my head about a year ago, so I started to. My question to you is. Should we cover our heads and hair? or is it ok to leave our hair down and cover only the head? That has been on my mind since. I usually put my hair up and cover my head and hair as well. The Scripture says that our long hair is our glory so we are to cover man’s glory before the LORD. I just thought I would ask someone else who has an understanding of this topic.
